There is nothing quite like the British summer, is there? This weekend, we decided to do something a bit special and surprised Amy with a trip she’s wanted to do for ages: Strawberry Picking! We headed down to Cammas Hall, and it wasn’t just the two of us; we had the boys with us too, making it a proper family day out.
I’ll be honest, most of the group arrived feeling a bit “worse for wear” after a few too many drinks the night before. While the rest of the gang were struggling, the fresh air and the prospect of sweet, juicy strawberries were exactly what the doctor ordered.
Cammas Hall is absolutely massive and easily the best place to go if you’re looking for quality fruit.
The Taste Test: The strawberries were incredible—massive, sweet, and so juicy. I even hand-fed Amy her first pick of the day!
Pro Tip: Keep an eye out for wasps! They love the sweet stuff as much as we do.
The Raspberries: We did wander over to the raspberry section, but they were a bit delicate and battered for our liking. We decided to “abandon ship” on the raspberries and stick to our prize-winning box of strawberries.
For those of you planning a visit, here’s the breakdown:
Booking Fee: It’s about £12 per person for a slot (best to check the website for availability).
The Fruit: Our full punnet of strawberries came to about £15.50.
The Verdict: All in all, with a few drinks and the fruit, you’re looking at around £40-£50 for a lovely afternoon. Considering you can eat as you pick, it’s a fair deal!
We couldn’t leave without a trip to the farm shop. We picked up a pavlova base and some proper thick double cream. Amy was very clear—no “sqiurty cream” allowed if you want to do it properly!
Back at home, we whipped up a masterpiece. There is genuinely no comparison between supermarket fruit and strawberries you’ve picked yourself an hour before eating them.
Cammas Hall is a fantastic spot, especially if you have kids (there’s a great playground and sandpit). Just remember to wear sunblock—or in my case, a jumper to protect the new tattoo—and check the fruit calendar online before you head out.
