If you’re looking for a brilliant venue in East London that offers more than just a pint, you’ve got to check out Big Penny Social in Walthamstow. It’s a massive space with a fantastic atmosphere, and we recently headed down there to try our hand at a bit of curling.

More Than Just a Bar

Big Penny Social is impressive. It’s huge, but it doesn’t feel overcrowded (unless there’s a massive football match on!). Right as we arrived, we were directed to Big Penny Studio, where the lovely reception staff got us sorted and showed us to our lane.

If curling isn’t your thing, they’ve also got an upstairs area called Flukes, which is packed with games like darts, pool, and shuffleboard. It’s basically a playground for adults!

Let the Games Begin

After a quick rundown of the rules, we ordered some drinks, split into teams, and got to work. Now, I’ll be honest—curling requires a lot more skill than it looks!

The Tactical Approach: We started off with some “pro” shots, but things went a bit downhill after that. We even tried getting creative with the brooms to see if we could gain an advantage, but I’m not sure it actually helped much!

Boys vs. Girls: After some mixed-team warm-ups, the real rivalry started. It was neck-and-neck all the way to the final game.

A Loud Victory

I hate to admit it, but the girls absolutely smashed us in the end. They took the win and, in typical fashion, they made sure everyone knew about it! From the cheers inside the venue to the celebrations spilling out onto the streets of Walthamstow, I’m pretty sure the whole borough heard about their victory.

Final Verdict: 10/10

I can’t recommend Big Penny Social enough for a night out. Whether you’re there for the curling, the craft beer, or just a few games of pool upstairs, it’s a top-tier spot. It’s a 10 out of 10 from me.
