If you’re looking for a city that breathes music, serves up massive portions of soul food, and guarantees a “messy” night out with friends, look no further than Nashville, Tennessee. We recently spent five nights in the “Music City” with our close friends, Claire and Ricky, and it was every bit as wild and wonderful as we expected.
After a slightly turbulent landing (what we call “squeaky bum time”!), we settled into our hotel. The rooms in Nashville are built for partying—complete with massive fridges for storing drinks. We started our first night at Broadway Brewhouse. Pro tip: try the “Liquid Marijuana” cocktail if you’re feeling brave, and don’t miss the beef patty melts. Just be warned: American portions are gargantuan!
The second day was all about celebrating Claire’s birthday. We kicked things off with a sophisticated brunch at Milk & Honey—the flavoured mimosas (grapefruit and pineapple) are highly recommended.
Since you can’t be in Nashville without looking the part, we headed to Opry Mills for some shopping. You haven’t truly experienced Tennessee until you’ve donned a pair of cowboy boots and a fresh Stetson.
One of the absolute highlights was our line dancing lesson at Bootleggers Bar. Even if you have two left feet, it’s a brilliant laugh.
The instructors were A+, and by the end of the session, even the boys were getting the hang of the steps. We celebrated our new skills with some authentic Moonshine, it’s smoother than you’d think but definitely packs a punch!
For a change of pace, we booked VIP seats for “The Shiners” at the Woolworth Theatre. It’s a hilarious adult comedy show that’s perfect for groups. The rest of our nights were spent on Broadway, hopping between bars like Whiskey River (home to the infamous Bucking Bronco) and the Hard Rock Cafe. By Saturday night, the road is closed to cars because the “foot traffic” is so intense—the energy is comparable to New York on New Year’s Eve!
If you’re visiting, make sure to check out:
- Assembly Food Hall: Perfect for groups because there are so many options. The sliced brisket and corn casserole are top-tier.
- The English Pub: Sometimes you just need a taste of home. Their bangers and mash were so good we went back twice!
- Five Daughters Bakery: You haven’t lived until you’ve tried their 100-layer doughnuts.
Travel is never without its hiccups. Ricky managed to stab himself in the eye with a menu on day one (we’ve officially nicknamed him “Calamity Rick”), and our Top Golf plans were scuppered by a 2.5-hour wait. If you’re planning a trip, book your activities well in advance, especially for weekends!
Nashville is a friendly, vibrant, and loud city that never sleeps. Whether you’re there for the music, the history, or just a legendary “piss up” with mates, it delivers on every level.
Next stop for us? The sunny shores of the Dominican Republic! Stay tuned for the next vlog.
